距離の正解／古屋呂敏のFocal Length Vol.20

今回のテーマは「距離の正解」。

この連載では、ずっと「距離」と向き合ってきた。

それは焦点距離という数字にとどまらず、人との心の距離、モノとの向き合い方、そして「今」との距離のことでもある。

距離が近いからいいわけじゃない。遠いから悪いということもない。

すべてが見えているから美しいとも限らないし、ぶれている写真がダメな写真だとも思わない。

大切なのは、そこに“意思”があるかどうか。
意味を込めてシャッターを切ったとき、その距離が、その瞬間が、「正解」になる。

Nikon Zfを手にしてから、自然とモノクロの世界に惹かれるようになった。

色がなくなると、人と花の“体温”に目がいく。

シャッタースピードを落として、花に風を吹かせてみる。

ピントを少しだけ外してみる。

そこに生が宿り、余白が生まれる。
影に目を向ければ、想像の物語が始まる。

Zfを通して、「見たい世界」との距離を調整している。

同じ被写体でも、その距離は人それぞれ。
だから、写真は面白い。

だから今日もシャッターを切る。
距離の正解を探しながら。

「The Right Distance」
In this series, I’ve always explored the idea of “distance.”
Not just in terms of focal length.
but also the emotional space between people, the way I engage with objects,
and the distance between myself and the present moment.
Being close doesn’t always mean it’s good.
Being far doesn’t necessarily make it bad.
Just because everything is in focus doesn’t make it beautiful.
A blurry photo isn’t necessarily a failed one.
What matters is whether there’s intention behind it.
When you shoot with meaning,
that distance—that moment—becomes the right one.
Ever since I started using the Nikon Zf,
I’ve found myself drawn more and more to monochrome.
Without color, I began to notice the warmth of life
in people and in flowers.
I slow the shutter speed, let the wind move through the petals.
I shift the focus just a little.
Life begins to breathe in that imperfection,
and space for interpretation opens up.
When I turn my attention to the shadows,
stories start to unfold in the viewer’s mind.
Through the Zf, I adjust my distance to the world I want to see.
Even with the same subject,
the right distance is different for everyone.
That’s what makes photography so fascinating.
And that’s why I keep pressing the shutter,
always searching for the right distance.
